Task 1:
The research topic I chose was too broad. During the consultation, I was encouraged to be more specific on what I intend to explore. My first attempt at the time was to talk about how indie games are able to compete in the modern era. After the feedback, i decided to keep the general aspect of game design research but specify more.
Week 4
Task 1:
The revised research topic was approved, but still needed a better wording. What needed to be fixed was the wording on “minimal resources”, it creates a new problem and requires further explanation that will go too much of a tangent outside of my main topic focus. The wording implies that there will be further discussions on what resources are considered to be minimal and what those resources itself are. So instead i changed it to “limited constraints”.
Week 5
Task 1:
After receiving satisfactory result on the research topic and research problem, the next issue surface on my research question and research objective. I misunderstood on how they are supposed to be formulated.
Week 6
Task 1:
The students present in the consultation session are briefed on the many types of research method that can be used. Then as my consultation turn comes up, I talked with the lecturer on what my plan is for my research.
Week 7
Task 2:
By the time the consultation session starts, I have not yet completed task 2. However, I did already chose 3 sources that I was planning to review on. Moreover, I have also briefly read through them to be able to make a short summary on each work. After explaining the 3 works that I chose to review, i was told that one of them is not valid for me to use due to the publishing date being too old, thus lacking relevance. This created an issue for me because the topic I am researching is on RPG games, which most of them are quite outdated.

Task 3:
After having the overall idea on what I want to do for task 3, I have started writing down the structure on how I want to lay out my research. During consultation, I was told to further elaborate on my work and progress. The students that were present in the session are also briefed on what to do and what not to do in the research, mainly focusing on how to write the research methods.

Presenting the progress that I have made so far, I have studied how to do the research method that I chose. The feedback given was for me to not forget to add quantitative data. I then explained that it might not be achievable as I am doing an observational study instead of a questionnaire. On the other hand, qualitative data collection is what I am certain of pulling off. To balance it out I relay to the lecturer that I will be doing a more extensive research. The lecturer then urge me to start the data collection process this week.
