a. Physical Collage Design (10%) : -
This assignment has two parts :- Physical collage & Digital Collage
1. Physical Collage Design :- We are required to cut out pieces from an old magazine, and arrange it together to compile a collage
2. Digital Collage design :- We were given a google drive with images. We are limited to using these images to make a digital collage. We are not allowed to adjust the color or change the proportions of the images. But we are allowed to cut out shapes from the images given. After making the digital collage we are supposed to use adjustment layers to make minor changes to it.
b. Digital Imaging (10%)
Digital Imaging consists of 2 exercises
1. Exercise 1 :- This exercise has 2 parts. In the first part we were given 2 images, of shazam and hearst mansion. We have cut out shazam and place him in the hearst mansion. We have to make several adjustments to make shazam blend in with the environment. In the second part of the exercise, we place an image of ourself in the hearst mansion and follow the same instructions to make us blend in with the environment.
2. Exercise 2 :- This exercise has 2 parts, where it shows 2 methods to recolor black and white images. This exercise has 2 parts. The first part of the exercise we have recolor a black and white images of an old man using the first method. The second part of the exercise we are supposed to recolor an image of an woman, using the second method. Then we have to use the second method to recolor one black and white image from the google drive folder provided.
For this task, we selected shapes, images, and fragments from old magazines to assemble into a cohesive design. We needed to create three different compositions, one of which would be chosen as the final design based on approval.
WEEK 3
As the pre compositions were not yet glued on, we could still choose and identify my collage's design elements that were cut out and re compose it again during today's class
2. PRE-COMPOSITION #2
below is a second composition I did before class
3. PRE-COMPOSITION #3
This was the most recent and ended up being chosen as the final option for the task
Updated:
after receiving feedback, this is how the composition look like. I was told that to avoid infringement of copyright by the photographer, it is important to change aspect of the object and subject photo. For example here the person was the main focus of the composition and nothing was on top of it. It was suggested that there should be something covering his face to avoid copyright.
additionally, to make the flow of the theme better, I added another hand to create a thematic effect on the entire composition.
WEEK 2
In class, we are assigned to do out task with the collage. We are able to utilize the class time to start working on it by cutting the magazines and other materials that we prepared beforehand
I only managed to finish one composition during class
1. PRE-COMPOSITION #1
WEEK 3 - PEN TOOL EXERCISE (BEST COMPOSITION)
DESCRIPTION:
For the first attempt, i have already accidentally implemented the usage of clipping mask as seen on the building, so that it is inside the cut out circle shape of the background. However, i have not yet understood that it could been useful to adjust the color balance aspect as well.
WEEK 4 (ADJUSTMENT LAYERS & FILTERS )
PHOTO MANIPULATION
Here are my exercise of inserting shazam image into a background
Afetr mastering the technique with the shazam exercise, I tried to input my own photo into the background as instructed

The result is as follows. What I noticed from the result with my own photo is that it is slightly different with the exercise, which is probably due to the color scheme difference on the reference image. On the shazam one, the outfit is very saturated and easier to notice a difference during color balancing. While on my own photo, I am wearing a more monochrome color which affects how the result looked, making it seem very desaturated and having to contrast in colors.
EXERCISE
For this exercise, we were tasked with recoloring two black-and-white images using two distinct techniques demonstrated in tutorial videos. Additionally, we had to independently recolor another image selected from the provided files on Google Drive.
